On raising kind humans

For those that don’t know ... we’ve been homeschooling for 6 years and it’s been a journey of sacrifice- sometimes only having one car and living in a basement spider-filled apartment- to going on government assistance to get basic groceries....

But we’ve never looked back- our family is healthier, stronger and our marriage is on a great foundation because of our lifestyle.

We go on adventures daily- finding new parks, hiking tails or museums.

We invest in memberships to historical or educational places instead of expensive curriculum. We cook together, work together, build together, fail together.

This is our family- a place to discover, make messes, take chances and make mistakes.

Grades don’t exist here. Everyone we meet is a friend.

You have an idea- let’s do it. Let’s buy supplies to make it. Let’s solve it together. Let’s think critically about the world and how we can make it a better place.

People ask me- how long am I going to do this? Are my children missing out on the world? Are they going to be successful? I can only hope that our love, our encouragement and our values are passed on to the new generation- and no matter what they become- they are simply good humans.
