We have recently been very interested in learning the ancient art of wooden cup making using an array of different handtools and chisels.
The work of art starts with a basic piece of wood. Then you outline it with a pencil and then you become a sculptor- bringing out the beauty within and taking out all the unnecessary parts of the cup- Until all you have left is a beautifully shaped bowl.
But you have to do it at the right time. We Tried letting this project be drawn out over the course of a few days, but the bowl cracked under the dryness of the winter air.
So once we had the basic shape drawn out, we had to start whittling away.
The bowl started to slowly shape and form after taking out the unnecessary wood.
This reminded us of an inspirational life lesson.
What are you being shaped into?
Are you being shaped into something that is going to be useful and beautiful?
Are you going to let the world shape you into anything that they desire? Or are you going to be formed and shaped by people of character and wholesome influences?
Whatever you let into your life, you will be shaped by- whether consciously or subconsciously.
Timing is everything in life. Too soon and the project doesn’t get done well. Too late, and we start to crack under the pressure.
What influences have you let shape your life? Who are you listening to?
